Studio 3 Architecture was retained to assist in the design and development of the new Boy’s Dormitory for the Oregon School for the Deaf.
The project coined as Phase I consists of 8 beds and a common area that includes study areas, living, games, office and a kitchen. The project was designed to easily allow future additions up to 48 beds total. The project was featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover program.
Built in a week, the project is LEED Gold certified and features many sustainable features. An eco-roof covers a portion of the roof and solar panels provide up to 30% of the buildings electrical needs.
Sustainable and recycled materials were used throughout the building, including reclaimed wood, cork flooring, and furniture built by volunteers.
